  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 large egg whites (room temp)
  • 1 whole egg (room temp)
  • 2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 ¼ cup buttermilk (room temp)
  • For Buttercream: 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, powdered sugar, milk, almond extract
  • For Drip: White candy melts, heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round baking pans.
  2. Combine all-purpose flour, cake flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl.
  3. Cream together room temperature butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and extracts to the butter mixture, mixing well.
  5. Alternate adding buttermilk and dry ingredients to the batter until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes completely before frosting with almond buttercream.
  8. Prepare the white chocolate drip by melting candy melts with heavy cream; drizzle over frosted cake.
  9. Garnish with sliced almonds.
