  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 21/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 to 3-1/2 cups bread flour
  • 3 Tbsp shortening (preferably butter flavored)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • Egg wash: 1 egg whisked with 1 Tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk, yeast, and sugar; let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a mixer, combine the yeast mixture with warm water, whole wheat flour, 3 cups of bread flour, shortening, honey, and salt.
