  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 1 1/3 cups almond meal
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • For icing: cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and melted butter. Gradually add to yeast mixture on low speed until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on medium speed for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Let rise in a greased bowl covered for about an hour or until doubled.
  4. Mix softened butter, almond meal, sugar, egg, extracts, and salt for the filling.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle (¼ inch thick); spread filling evenly and roll tightly.
  6. Cut into pieces and let rise again for about 30 minutes on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While baking, beat together icing ingredients until smooth; drizzle over warm rolls topped with slivered almonds.
