Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 21/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 21/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Colored sugar or sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1-1/4 cups confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix well.
  2. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the creamed mixture until just combined. If the dough is too soft, chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  3. Pack the dough into a cookie press fitted with your desired disk. Press onto ungreased baking sheets about two inches apart.
  4. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes until set but not browned. Allow cooling on wire racks.
  5. For decoration, mix remaining confectioners' sugar with water to create a glaze and dip each cookie or sprinkle with colored sugar before serving.
