  • 1 pound flank steak (thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion (cut into pieces)
  • 1 red bell pepper (cut into pieces)
  • 1 green bell pepper (cut into pieces)
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 25 small dried red chilies
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, toss the flank steak with corn starch, salt, and pepper until well coated.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Cook the beef in batches for about 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté the yellow onion and bell peppers for about 3–4 minutes until softened. Add dried chilies and Sichuan peppercorns.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and ginger; cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Return the beef to the pan and toss together.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together sauce ingredients until smooth; pour over the beef mixture.
  7. Bring to a boil for about 30 seconds until the sauce thickens slightly.
