Scale
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 12 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • ¼ cup cold water
  • lbs baking apples (approximately 3 large)
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust by combining flour, salt, and sugar in a food processor. Add cold butter and pulse until pea-sized. Gradually add cold water until the mixture is moistened but crumbly. Knead briefly to form a disk and refrigerate.
  2. For the filling, peel and slice apples; toss with sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, melted butter, and salt.
  3. Roll out chilled dough into a circle on parchment paper; transfer to a baking sheet.
  4. Arrange apple slices over the dough and fold edges over apples in a free-form style.
  5. Brush edges with beaten egg and sprinkle turbinado sugar over the tart. Chill for about 20 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 55-65 minutes until golden brown and tender.
