  • 1 loaf stale challah or brioche bread (1 lb, cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • 6 cups eggnog (room temperature)
  • 6 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 13×9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add eggs one at a time while whisking. Gradually mix in the eggnog until smooth.
  3. Layer bread cubes in the prepared dish and pour custard mixture over them. Gently toss to coat.
  4. Press down on the bread cubes to soak up the custard. Cover with foil and let sit for about 30 minutes.
  5. Bake uncovered for 45 to 55 minutes until golden brown and puffed up. Let it rest for 20-30 minutes before serving.
