  • 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest and juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar (for topping)
  • Powdered sugar (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry into a rectangle (12"x16").
  3. Cut strips about ½ inch wide along the sides of the pastry.
  4. In a bowl, mix cream cheese until smooth, then add sugar, egg, vanilla, salt, lemon zest, and juice; blend until creamy.
  5. Spoon the cream cheese filling down the center of the pastry.
  6. Braid the strips over the filling by alternating sides.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before drizzling icing made from lemon juice and powdered sugar.
