Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound puff pastry (2 sheets, thawed)
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, diced)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/8 cup brown sugar
  • 1/8 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the glaze: 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon milk, 2/3 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling by melting butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add diced apples and cook for about five minutes until softened.
  2. Lower heat and mix in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until apples are tender but not mushy. Allow to cool.
  3. Roll out each pastry sheet into an 11-inch square; cut into four squares. Place 1-2 tablespoons of filling on each square.
  4. Use egg wash (beaten egg with milk) to seal edges; fold corners to form triangles and crimp with a fork.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Chill assembled turnovers for 15 minutes before baking on parchment-lined sheets for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Drizzle cooled pastries with glaze made from whisking powdered sugar and milk.
