Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water (110°F)
  • 1 cup milk (110°F)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 51/2 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Warm the water and milk to about 110°F. In a large bowl, combine warm liquids with sugar and optional ginger; sprinkle in the yeast. Let sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  2. Stir in salt and vegetable oil until well combined.
  3. Gradually mix in bread flour until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about an hour).
  5. Punch down dough, divide into two portions, shape into loaves, and place in greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter and cool before slicing.
